Snow White and the Seven Tickets Sold…
Exhibitors across the country are bracing for impact this weekend when the controversial remake of “Snow White” hits theaters.
Too many controversies to name here, but the film has exhibitors worried and movie theater employees on the fritz.
Sources at top theater chains in the US have management fuming as they’re “stuck” with the film in major PLFs including: IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX and other premium large formats for a minimum of 3 weeks until Minecraft gives it the boot early next month.
Screenings were held in certain markets yesterday by Disney and the turnout was terrible. On average, only 30% of the allocated seats were taken up which is terrible in comparison to other Disney movie early access screenings where there’s holdover lines and long lines just to get in the door. Not with this movie, our sources say that there were no lines outside of their theaters and lower than expected turnout…yikes!
Family films and Disney titles traditionally do very will for exhibitors who rely on concessions revenue to sustain their operations.
Pre-sales have been live for nearly two weeks now and most screenings across the country have either 0 tickets sold on opening nights or up to 40 tickets sold in their busiest 7pm hour.
This also impacts movie theater employees who rely on hours to pay their bills and rents with many fearing the incoming mouse flop will cause them to have a hard time paying their rent due to low hours or not being scheduled at all.
Only time will tell, but for now this looks like a high hoh flop…
