Review: Uptown Girls on Blu-ray from MGM
MGM presents Uptown Girls on Blu-ray.
Molly played by the late Brittany Murphy is a partying rock 'n' roll princess whose money just ran out. Ray (Dakota Fanning) is a fussy nine-year-old whose latest nanny just ran out. When Molly is hired as Ray's new caretaker, it's the perfect setup for both girls to change their ways.
Having recently watched this at the New Beverly on a studio archival 35MM nitrate print - I was stoked that this was getting a Blu-ray re-release from MGM.
The film is on a BD-25 disc which at first I wasn’t happy about, because I prefer HD movies on BD-50s.
I must say I was very impressed with the quality and encoding of this HD transfer for a BD-25 disc.
This film is a true gem and its HD transfer has aged like fine wine. The picture was gorgeous and dreamy.
The picture has that nostalgic early 2000’s feel to it. I just love it! Take me back to 2003 please :)
The film includes a Dolby Digital audio track which is very detailed with audio levels having dialogue and music nicely balanced.
Praying one day this gets the 4k UHD transfer it deserves!
Olive Films originally released this film along with other MGM films onto Blu-ray.
Since their closure, MGM has taken over its back catalogue of titles and released this one onto Blu-ray.
Uptown Girls is a 2003 movie which if you were a kid like me at the time, you knew that was one of the best years for comedies of the early 2000’s.
A young Dakota Fanning who’s career was just starting to take off.
The film was made for a modest $20M budget and grossed double that around $44M.
