REVIEW: Sonic 3 on 4k UHD
Our friends over at Paramount sent us a copy of Sonic 3 set us a copy of Sonic 3 on 4k UHD to review.
Here’s our thoughts…
First off, thank you Paramount for always being considerate and keeping special features on the 4k disc! Loaded with closed to an hour of fun bonus features and an awesome commentary track with Director Jeff Fowler and the voice actor of Sonic (more on this and fun facts I learned later).
Sonic 3 takes place a lot at night which allows for the colors in the animated characters and action sequences with them pop!
With incredibly detail this 4k UHD version is presented in Dolby Vision/HDR10 which allows for colors to pop vibrantly and leap off the screen and a lot of the nighttime sequences to look brighter. Details are significantly enhanced from character’s hair, clothing details and more!
The picture is super crisp and looks fantastic over the Blu-ray. It’s truly in my opinion the HDR which makes the difference here as the color grading is a 10/10.
The Dolby Atmos mix is very detailed and like the picture sounds super crisp! Dialogue is mixed very well into the action sequences and is able to maintain balanced levels throughout. The audio packs a punch throughout as action scenes with energy bursts to characters zipping around to some scenes that are just characters talking and walking around. For a sound track where everything can change in a second from calm to loud and never loses control. It is that well balanced! Hats off to the mixing engineers for making a strong well-balanced Dolby Atmos track!
That’s all we want in an Atmos track without having to ever adjust our settings!
Last, the 4k are loaded with the same bonus features as the BD so you want have to switch back and forth!
I highly encourage you to listen to the audio commentary track from Director Jeff Fowler and the Actor who plays Sonic.
I learned a fun fact (I’ll keep the rest of the BTS spoilers for you to watch on your own). But Actress Alyla Browne who played Maria in Sonic 3 also played Young Furiosa in last year’s “Furiosa” and playing the role of Charlotte in that spider horror film also from last year “Sting”.
Sonic 3 on 4k UHD is a MUST-OWN from Paramount - hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! :)
