REVIEW: Jurassic Park - 4k UHD (Dolby Vision+Dolby Atmos)
Alrighty folks…Good Day LA! Here’s my review for the updated 4k transfer for Jurassic Park with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
I’ll be real honest - I was never a huge fan of the original transfer that barely had some HDR on it. It looked and sounded terrible.
I’m pleased to inform that’s not the case with this updated transfer!
Universal clearly heard the fans and made this one brighter with the film’s new Dolby Vision grading the picture truly comes to life.
The film is noticeably brighter throughout and takes greater use of HDR application in the nighttime/dark sequences. Details are crystal clear. There was a single frame in the original 4k master that had a darkened picture for a single frame that was corrected in the transfer when they first arrive at the park in the jeep.
We also got the modern Universal disc menus - also an upgrade — finally! :)
The Dolby Atmos track is a significant upgrade from the DTS X track - whereas right in that opening scene it’s instantly atmospheric - you can hear sounds you’ve never heard before - so crisp and detailed!
The action sequences are well balanced and Rexy’s roar comes through big and bold through those speakers! There’s just a massive sound landscape with Jurassic Park from the dialogue to the action where you have to have a balance and that’s something the original one didn’t shine through on.
Pay every penny you have this a 10/10 for me.
I started Jurassic Park: The Lost World last night and that one looks 10/10 as well - plan to finish tonight :)
Also, I had to take a sneak peak at Jurassic World and that also looks incredible - interesting thing is that this transfer has noticeable more grain for the grain fanatics! I didn’t know it was shot on film like the ones before it, but that also was looking way more improved in picture and sound as well.
