BREAKING: (EXCLUSIVE!) Snow White’s box office ship is tanking SO BAD that top exhibitors are negotiating with the mouse house on how to get rid of it sooner that expected…
The new Snow White film has had multiple controversies causing its box office performance domestically and worldwide to tank. Traditionally, Disney has the bargaining power and mandates their films to play exclusively for a set amount of time in PLFs, but the tides have slightly turned on this release.
What I’m hearing…
Top theater chain execs and management at the local theaters are frustrated with Disney and can’t wait to get rid of the film. So much so that execs are negotiating behind the scenes with Disney to kick the film sooner than it’s 3 weeks exclusive in IMAX, DOLBY, and other PLF and traditional formats.
Exhibitors were hopeful that WOM would drive walk-up business to theater this weekend. So far, not looking good.
The film’s B+ CinemaScore is the lowest ever for a live action Disney film in history.
Based on our internal tracking, we don’t expect this to make more than $30 million domestically and about the same worldwide. Nobody wants to watch Snow White.
Fortunately, indie houses have A24’s Death of a Unicorn next weekend which should drive walk-up traffic and then Minecraft the next weekend.
Only time will tell if this is truly a heigh hoh flop incoming - it looks to the that way.
