When Lionsgate tweeted that the announcement earlier this month that Are You There God It’s Me Margaret?! and it showed quickly - why didn’t the 4k come out already?!

One might ask—why is after the fact and how can we get more family titles onto 4k Ultra HD!

The studios are waking up to blossoming high quality format that is increasingly becoming a main stream playback option more and more.

Sony Pictures has recently shown what is possible by bringing both the animated family adventure GOAT and the Adam Sandler favorite Click to 4K Ultra HD.

While GOAT represents a new generation of family entertainment, Click is exactly the kind of catalog title studios should be revisiting. Sony’s 4K release of Click features a director-approved presentation with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack—giving the nearly 20-year-old film a substantial home-entertainment upgrade. However, releases like these still feel more like welcome exceptions than part of a consistent studio strategy.

Why haven’t more family films made the jump to 4K?

Family movies are among the most rewatchable titles in any household. Children return to their favorites repeatedly, while parents introduce the films they loved growing up to a new generation. That makes these movies ideal candidates for premium physical editions designed to last.

Lionsgate’s upcoming 4K Ultra HD release of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. offers another encouraging example. More than three years after the film’s original Blu-ray release, this celebrated adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel is finally receiving the premium treatment it deserves, complete with Dolby Vision, HDR and Dolby Atmos. This is precisely the type of film studios should preserve in the highest-quality home format available. It may not feature superheroes, explosions or elaborate visual effects, but its warm cinematography, period details, carefully designed costumes and memorable soundtrack can still benefit tremendously from greater resolution, expanded color and immersive audio.

That is an important point: 4K Ultra HD should not be reserved primarily for action blockbusters, horror films and major franchises.

Disney has continued to support the format with many of its Pixar and animated releases, but family entertainment stretches far beyond animation. Comedies, coming-of-age stories, sports movies, fantasy adventures and live-action favorites all deserve consideration. Parents and collectors would welcome the opportunity to own definitive editions of the movies they watch together.

The format also offers something increasingly valuable in the streaming era: ownership.

Streaming availability can change without warning. Titles move between services, premium features can vary by platform and a family favorite may disappear just when someone wants to watch it. A 4K disc provides a permanent copy with consistent picture and sound quality, attractive packaging and, ideally, a worthwhile collection of supplements.

Physical media can also become part of the experience itself. Choosing a movie from the shelf, opening the case and watching it together feels more intentional than endlessly scrolling through a streaming menu. It gives parents, children, nieces, nephews and cousins something fun to share—and creates memories around the movie itself.

Younger audiences are already embracing physical formats in other areas. Vinyl records have experienced a major resurgence, while CDs, cassettes and other tangible media have found new life with collectors who did not grow up with them. If younger consumers can discover the appeal of owning music, why can’t studios help them discover 4K Ultra HD?

The audience is there. The nostalgia is there. The technology is there.

Studios simply need to recognize that family titles can have value beyond a standard Blu-ray, DVD or temporary spot on a streaming service. A well-restored catalog favorite, an acclaimed modern coming-of-age film or a colorful new animated adventure can become something families proudly add to their collections.

Movies are often passed from one generation to the next. The editions preserving them should be built to last just as long.

Consider this a call to every major studio: bring more family films to 4K Ultra HD. Give these movies beautiful restorations, Dolby Vision or HDR presentations, immersive soundtracks and thoughtful special features. Parents, collectors and the next generation of movie fans are ready for them.

Arrow Video continues to prove why they remain one of the premier boutique labels in physical media. Partnering with Netflix to finally bring Stranger Things to home video in a deluxe collector's edition was already exciting—but the finished product exceeds expectations in nearly every category.

The moment you open the oversized deluxe box, it's immediately clear this was designed by collectors for collectors. Every component feels premium, from Juan Ramos' outstanding new wraparound artwork to the reversible sleeves featuring Kyle Lambert's iconic artwork, the Hawkins map, posters, Hellfire Club collectibles, Palace Arcade coin, art cards, and perhaps the biggest surprise—the outstanding 148-page hardcover-style artbook packed with concept art, production materials, and essays from the Duffer Brothers and other filmmakers.

This feels less like buying a television series and more like purchasing a museum-quality archive.

Video Quality

The biggest headline here is the complete Dolby Vision presentation across every season.

The image quality is absolutely phenomenal.

Colors explode off the screen while still maintaining the nostalgic '80s aesthetic that defines the series. Neon lights inside Starcourt Mall, Christmas lights communicating with Will, Hawkins Lab's sterile whites, and the eerie reds of the Upside Down all receive significant improvements in HDR.

Black levels are incredibly deep without crushing shadow detail—especially important during the countless nighttime sequences throughout the series.

Fine textures are outstanding. Clothing, facial detail, practical makeup effects, creature designs, and production design all benefit tremendously from the native 4K presentation.

Each season also maintains a wonderfully cinematic appearance with natural grain and excellent clarity.

Whether you're watching Season One for the tenth time or experiencing Season Five for the first time, every episode looks absolutely spectacular.

Every season includes the original DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mixes along with stereo options.

Seasons 4 and 5 receive upgraded Dolby Atmos presentations that are every bit as immersive as fans hoped.

Arrow Video has transformed Troy into the definitive collector's edition—an epic release worthy for an epic film!

From the wonderfully warped imagination of Tim Burton comes the story of Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), a dashing aristocrat who is turned into a vampire by a jilted lover and entombed for two centuries. Emerging from his coffin into the world of 1972, he returns to his once-majestic home, only to find the few dysfunctional descendants of the Collins family who remain. Determined to return his family name to its former glory, Barnabas is thwarted at every turn by his former lover - the seductive witch Angelique (Eva Green). I’ve been a huge fan of this film for years - its visual and soundtrack haunts me to the core and Depp / Pfeiffer and its ensemble cast deliver incredible performances making for a fun and suspenseful Tum Burton film

At upgraded Atmos from DTX mix was the biggest surprise of joy - a well deserved Atmos mix on a film that is a true gothic horror blissfully made in the early 2010’s. ‘Twas a time of great storytelling and Dark Shadows is one of them!

Every Sunday, when the week begins winding down and it’s time to relax, I find myself reaching for Arrow Video’s stunning 4K Ultra HD release. While many people associate comfort movies with lighthearted comedies or animated classics, Crimson Peak has become exactly that for me—a beautifully haunting gothic romance that’s as soothing as it is mesmerizing.

A Haunted House You Actually Want to Visit

One of the biggest reasons Crimson Peak remains endlessly rewatchable is Allerdale Hall itself.

The mansion isn’t simply a setting—it’s a living character.

Snow drifts through the collapsing roof. Crimson clay bleeds through the frozen ground. Hallways creak with history, and every room feels handcrafted rather than digitally created. Production designer Thomas E. Sanders created one of modern cinema’s greatest haunted houses, filled with intricate staircases, decaying walls, antique furniture, and gothic architecture that rewards repeat viewings.

Each time I watch the film, I notice another tiny detail hidden somewhere inside the mansion.

GDT’s Visual Masterpiece

Few directors build worlds quite like Guillermo del Toro “GDT”!

Every frame of Crimson Peak feels like an oil painting brought to life. Rich reds, icy blues, candlelit interiors, elaborate Victorian costumes, and practical sets combine into one of the most visually stunning films of the last decade.

Unlike many modern horror films that lean heavily on darkness, Crimson Peak embraces color.

The crimson ghosts.

The golden candlelight.

The snow-covered landscapes.

Everything has purpose.

Watching the film almost feels therapeutic because of how carefully composed every shot is.

The HDR grading allows every candle flame to glow naturally while preserving incredible shadow detail throughout the mansion. Blacks remain deep without crushing detail, while reds become richer and more vibrant than ever before. The signature crimson clay practically jumps off the screen, contrasting beautifully against the cold white snow surrounding Allerdale Hall.

Textures receive an enormous boost as well. Every thread woven into Lucille’s dresses, every crack in the mansion’s walls, every weathered piece of wood and ornate carving becomes incredibly detailed.

It’s one of those releases that constantly reminds you why physical media still matters.

Horror... But Also Romance

One reason Crimson Peak has become such a comfort watch is that it’s never trying to be a traditional horror film.

Guillermo del Toro famously described it as a gothic romance rather than outright horror.

At its heart, the movie explores love, grief, obsession, family trauma, and the ghosts we carry with us—both literally and emotionally.

That emotional storytelling gives the film incredible replay value.

Even after multiple viewings, the performances continue to resonate.

Mia Wasikowska delivers a wonderfully empathetic Edith Cushing, while Tom Hiddleston brings surprising vulnerability to Thomas Sharpe. Jessica Chastain’s unforgettable performance as Lucille remains one of the finest gothic villains of the modern era, balancing elegance with terrifying intensity.

Every viewing feels relaxing despite the ghosts and murders unfolding on screen.

Their 4K UHD release of Crimson Peak showcases exactly how stunning the film was always meant to look, preserving Guillermo del Toro’s artistic vision with remarkable care. Combined with outstanding Dolby Vision HDR, immersive Dolby Atmos audio, and Arrow’s collector-focused presentation, this release has quickly become one of the crown jewels of my 4K collection.

Final Thoughts

Comfort movies don’t always have to be cheerful.

Sometimes comfort comes from returning to a beautifully crafted world you know by heart.

For me, Crimson Peak is exactly that.

It’s visually breathtaking, emotionally rich, endlessly atmospheric, and one of the finest examples of modern gothic filmmaking. Thanks to Arrow Video’s exceptional 4K UHD release, every revisit feels like stepping through the gates of Allerdale Hall for the very first time.

The beloved sequel to “Meet the Parents” beautifully called “Meet the Fockers” has landed on 4k UHD from SDS!

This new transfer stuns and looks even better in our opinion than Meet the Parents did and that looked great already. This transfer contains Dolby Vision/HDR colors and for a comedy - this film has a lot of popping colors which allows for it to look sharp and crisp with the added DV/HDR grading.

Additionally, Universal like all of their other SDS comedy 4ks have been upgrading their mixes from DTS to Dolby Atmos. The soundtrack for these films have incredible music by Randy Newman and that Atmos packs in the punch in this transfer.

Meet the Fockers is pressed on a BD-66 and truly looks fantastic!

I absolutely adore the Parent/Fockers trilogy and look forward to Ariana Grande’s post-Oscars follow-up in the 4th film - which releases during the Thanksgiving theatrical frame.

The film was originally released in 1994.

The movie still plays like a weekend-long fever dream: Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) are tired of being the school’s designated punching bags, so they do what any rational teenagers would do—use a computer to “create” the perfect woman. A power surge later, Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) appears, and the film becomes an escalating series of set pieces where confidence, popularity, and revenge fantasies get dialed up to cartoon levels. Hughes keeps it moving, but what makes it work is the underlying teen insecurity—Gary and Wyatt aren’t cool, they’re scared, and Lisa’s “magic” is really a turbo-charged push toward self-respect. And then there’s Chet (Bill Paxton), the gun-toting nightmare older brother who storms in like a human wrecking ball and steals every scene he’s in.

On the 4K side, Arrow’s restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative is the headline. This is a colorful, high-energy film with lots of lighting shifts (bedroom glow, nightclub neon, suburban daylight, stormy effects), and the Dolby Vision grade gives it a cleaner, more dimensional look without sanding off the film texture. Skin tones look more natural, highlights feel better controlled, and the image has that “fresh print” pop that makes the production design and costuming feel extra vivid. Arrow also includes both the original theatrical cut and a seamlessly-branched extended version with two additional scenes, which is exactly what you want from a collector’s edition: options, presented cleanly, without making you juggle discs mid-watch.

Audio is handled well too: you get original lossless stereo, plus a 5.1 DTS-HD MA surround option (theatrical version only). The stereo track keeps the era-authentic vibe, while the 5.1 option gives the soundtrack and effects a bit more room to breathe—especially helpful for a movie that lives on music cues, punchy comedy beats, and big “what just happened?” moments. Arrow Video’s 4K release of Michael Mann’s Blackhat feels like a proper reappraisal of a film that’s always been more interesting (and more forward-looking) than its reputation suggests. This is Mann taking his obsession with process, systems, and professional competence and aiming it at a modern battlefield: invisible, borderless, and moving at machine speed. The tagline says it best: we are no longer in control — and in 2026, that hits with a different kind of chill than it did on first release.

From the opening frames - the city from space visuals look glamorous presented in 4k Dolby Vision/HDR - a visual spectacle in your TV at home. Throughout you can tell this film greatly benefited from the Dolby Vision/HDR - making great use of blacker blacks and poppy blues and yellows - that shine onto your TV.

As a movie, Blackhat is at its strongest when it leans into the procedural momentum: the way information is gathered, how teams coordinate across jurisdictions, and how a single breach can ripple outward into real-world catastrophe. Chris Hemsworth plays Nick Hathaway as a blunt instrument with a brain — a convicted hacker pulled back into the field because he’s useful, not because anyone trusts him. The early inciting incident (a Hong Kong nuclear plant meltdown triggered by a penetration of its security) sets the stakes immediately, and the film stays in motion from there: Hong Kong to Chicago to Jakarta, with shifting alliances and competing agendas always threatening to derail the mission. Leehom Wang’s Chen Dawai gives the story its moral center and discipline, and the supporting cast (Tang Wei, Viola Davis, Yorick van Wageningen) adds texture and credibility to a world where everyone is calculating three moves ahead.

On 4K UHD, the biggest win is how well the format serves Mann’s digital-era aesthetic. Blackhat was shot with a modern, high-clarity look that can feel clinical on weaker transfers, but Arrow’s Dolby Vision presentation brings a more controlled, dimensional image — cleaner highlights, deeper blacks, and better separation in low-light scenes where screens, city lights, and reflections can easily turn into mush.
